Empowering Women with Love and Hygiene: LSSN’s Bold New Program

Lutheran Social Services of Nevada (LSSN) has launched a new initiative rooted in compassion and dignity: She Cares. The program begins with something simple but powerful — a purse. Inside each donated purse are essential hygiene items, gifted to women in need across the Las Vegas community. But She Cares is more than a one-time gesture. Each woman is welcomed back monthly for discreet, respectful refills — all provided at a newly established “Dignity Counter,” where women serve one another in grace and solidarity.

This is a ministry of presence, not just products. She Cares embodies the Lutheran call to serve our neighbors, honoring the image of God in each woman who walks through LSSN’s doors.

Holy Spirit Lutheran Church, New Song Church, and Good Samaritan Lutheran Church have all partnered generously — collecting purses, hygiene items, and uplifting LSSN’s CEO Tim Bedwell as he shares the vision. Businesses like Power Promotions, Junk Masterz, and GISI have also stepped in with in-kind donations ranging from scanners to storage help to product support, enabling LSSN to grow this initiative sustainably.

The first She Cares purse has already been distributed, and the pantry is stocked for many more. At the heart of this work is shared dignity — women helping women, churches walking alongside community members, and Lutheran leaders stepping forward with faith in action.

We also celebrate LSSN’s Employee of the Month, Marizol Valdez, whose passion for case management and support for her clients shines as a living testament to LSSN’s mission.

As we pray “give us this day our daily bread,” we remember that sometimes daily bread looks like soap, feminine hygiene, a sturdy bag — and always, it looks like love.
