Take Action for Dreamers: Highlights from the Latest LAMA Advocacy Update
The latest newsletter from Lutheran Advocacy Ministry Arizona (LAMA) highlights current advocacy priorities, upcoming events, and opportunities for people of faith across the Grand Canyon Synod to participate in public life.
At the center of this week’s update is an ELCA Action Alert urging Congress to support a pathway to citizenship for Dreamers by co-sponsoring the bipartisan Dream Act of 2025. Lutherans are encouraged to contact their representatives and advocate for legislation that recognizes the dignity and contributions of young immigrants who call the United States home.
LAMA also invites synod members to several upcoming gatherings that strengthen connections between faith communities and public policy. The LAMA Liaison Roundtable will meet on Monday, March 16 at 6:30 p.m. via Zoom, offering a space for conversation about congregational engagement in advocacy.
Another important opportunity is Interfaith Day at the Capitol on March 25 at the Arizona State Capitol, where people of faith will gather to meet with legislators, build relationships across traditions, and witness publicly for justice.
Looking ahead, additional opportunities include the Grand Canyon Synod Hunger Leaders Network meeting on March 31, as well as several advocacy-related committees hosted by the Arizona Faith Network in early April focusing on social justice, voting rights, and food systems advocacy.
The newsletter also highlights recent advocacy resources and statements from the ELCA addressing hunger policy, war and peace, and the church’s call to be peacemakers in a complex world.
Lutheran Advocacy Ministry Arizona serves as the public policy voice of the Grand Canyon Synod of the ELCA, equipping congregations and individuals to advocate for policies that reflect Lutheran commitments to justice, care for neighbors, and the flourishing of communities.
