Act Now: Voting Bills Move Forward + Key Advocacy Opportunities This Week

Several voting-related bills in Arizona are moving quickly and are scheduled for hearings today, Wednesday, March 18. Lutheran Advocacy Ministry Arizona (LAMA) is urging advocates across our synod to take action now using the RTS system to ensure faithful civic engagement is heard.

As Lutherans, we understand advocacy as an expression of our baptismal call—loving our neighbor, seeking justice, and participating in the public life of our communities. At a time when access to voting is under active discussion, your voice matters.

Beyond this urgent action alert, this week’s LAMA newsletter highlights several meaningful opportunities to live out our faith in public life:

  • Monday, March 23 (6:00–7:00 PM): The Fight to End Hunger: 2026 Update with Rick Steves and Eugene Cho

  • Wednesday, March 25 (8:00 AM–4:00 PM): Interfaith Day at the Capitol at the Arizona State Capitol — a day of shared witness, relationship-building, and meetings with legislators

  • Tuesday, March 31 (6:00–7:00 PM): Grand Canyon Synod Hunger Leaders Network — connect with others addressing hunger across our synod

  • Thursday, April 2:

    • Social Justice Commission (8:30–9:30 AM)

    • Faithful Voter AZ Committee (2:00–3:00 PM)

  • Friday, April 3 (12:00–1:00 PM): Anti-Hunger & Food Systems Advocacy Call

This week’s newsletter also includes important updates and resources from across the church and our partners, including:

  • A new ELCA social message on Child Protection

  • Action alerts on Dreamers and the Farm Bill

  • Opportunities to participate in ELCA sign-on letters

  • Creation care engagement through Lutherans Restoring Creation

  • A concerning update on Arizona’s projected $300 million budget shortfall and its potential impact on vulnerable neighbors

Throughout, we are reminded that advocacy is not separate from our faith—it is one way we live out God’s call to care for the neighbor, especially those most at risk.

We encourage you to read the full LAMA newsletter, take action where you can, and share these opportunities within your congregation and networks. Together, as people Rooted in God’s Story, we continue to show up in the world with courage, compassion, and hope.
