The Arizona Faith Network — an interfaith coalition committed to bringing faith communities together for advocacy and action — has issued a call to action for a nonviolent prayerful vigil this Sunday, January 25 at 4:00 PM outside the ICE Phoenix Field Office. This gathering responds to the escalating harm and violence connected to ICE enforcement in our communities and stands in solidarity with efforts in Minneapolis and across the country to support those living under the threat of detention and family separation. 

Rooted in the moral teachings of our faith, this vigil is both a sacred act of prayer and a public, prophetic call to justice. The Arizona Faith Network invites clergy, lay leaders, and neighbors to speak with moral clarity, organize with courage, and stand publicly alongside those whose dignity is too often treated as disposable. From a Lutheran theological perspective, this goes beyond charity — it is a stance for justice and human flourishing grounded in the belief that all are created in the image of God.

Clergy and faith leaders from a range of traditions will offer prayers, reflections, and moments of silence, calling for an end to dehumanizing practices and for policies rooted in compassion, dignity, and the common good.

What to Bring and Wear

Participants are encouraged to bring a candle to hold and light during the vigil, water for personal hydration, and to wear clergy garb or justice-themed attire if they have it.

This vigil represents more than a gathering — it is a call from the Arizona Faith Network for interfaith witness and collective moral clarity, inviting Lutheran and other faith communities to join in prayer and public witness for justice and compassion.
