Faith Lutheran Yuma Honors Veterans Through Wreaths Across America
Faith Lutheran Church in Yuma, Arizona, recently raised $954 through its Christmas Bazaar, featuring gently used decorations and homemade holiday treats. Every dollar directly supports Wreaths Across America, a national effort to remember and honor those who served in the U.S. military.
The congregation will take part in this year’s wreath-laying ceremony on Saturday, December 13 at noon at Sun Vista Cemetery in Fortuna Foothills. All are welcome to join as members gather to place evergreen wreaths on the graves of fallen service members.
Vicar Paula Pegues reflects on the deep meaning of this annual act. During Advent—a season centered on waiting, hope, and the coming light of Christ—the placing of wreaths becomes a living parable. “The act of laying wreaths ties together the season of Advent and Christmas with the sacred duty of honoring those who served,” she writes. “It’s a loving parable: evergreen wreaths as symbols of eternal life, placed upon the resting places of our military heroes.“
As we prepare our hearts during this Advent season, we give thanks for the witness of Faith Lutheran’s ministry and for all who honor the lives of those who served with dignity, compassion, and love.
