Faithful Listening, Bold Proclamation: Fall Workshops for ELCA Leaders
Lay and rostered leaders across the Grand Canyon Synod are invited to Faithful Listening, Bold Proclamation, a three-part series of interactive Zoom workshops facilitated by ELCA pastor and Womanist theologian Rev. Sharei Green. The workshops will be held on Thursdays, September 24, October 1, and October 8, at 6 p.m. Central Time (4 p.m. Arizona/Pacific Time). Participants may attend one, two, or all three sessions, with each workshop offering independent content.
Presented through the ELCA’s Transformed Listeners Initiative, the series is designed for preachers and proclaimers—both lay and rostered leaders—seeking to deepen the practice of listening to themselves, their communities, and God. Through faithful listening, leaders can strengthen their capacity to proclaim the Good News in ways that speak to the realities of a tired and weary world.
Each participatory session will include small-group conversation and discussion centered on a different theme:
September 24 — Community (2 hours): How we relate to community, self-care as community practice, and meaningful conversations.
October 1 — Gospel (1½ hours): The Gospel as narratives of oppressed communities, lamentation, and communal proclamation.
October 8 — Kin-dom (2 hours): Exploring Kin-dom, prophets and proclamation, and creating together.
Rev. Sharei Green is an ordained ELCA minister, Womanist theologian, and co-author of God’s Holy Darkness, a children’s book that challenges anti-Blackness in Christian theology by celebrating biblical images of darkness, blackness, and night as beautiful, good, and holy. Her ministry is particularly committed to creating spaces for community healing and sabbath.
Listening is more than a communication skill; it is part of our vocation as people called to love and accompany our neighbors. These workshops offer leaders an opportunity to listen more intentionally—to community, to experiences different from their own, and to the movement of God—and to consider how that listening shapes faithful proclamation.
