Holy Week Prayer and Public Witness: This Week from LAMA

As we enter the heart of Holy Week, Lutheran Advocacy Ministry Arizona (LAMA) invites us into a rhythm of rest, prayer, and renewed commitment to our neighbor.

This week’s Action Alert calls us to pause:

Rest, refresh, and pray through Holy Week to the glorious resurrection of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.

In the Lutheran tradition, this is not a retreat from the world—but a return to the source of our public witness. Grounded in Christ’s death and resurrection, we are sent again into the world to love and serve.

Ways to Engage in Advocacy and Community

LAMA continues to connect people across the Grand Canyon Synod in shared work for justice and care:

  • Hunger Leaders Network – Connecting leaders across congregations to address hunger together

  • Anti-Hunger & Food Systems Advocacy Call (April 3, 12–1 PM) – Legislative updates and advocacy opportunities

  • Cherishing Creation Collaborative (April 14, 10–11 AM) – Faith-based environmental collaboration

  • Poll Chaplain / Peacekeeper Training (April 14, 4–5:15 PM) – Supporting safe, fair elections

  • Conversation with John Fugelsang (April 15, 4–5:30 PM) – Exploring faith, democracy, and religious freedom

  • LAMA Liaison Roundtable (April 20, 6:30 PM) – Supporting congregational advocacy engagement

All are invited to participate and bring their congregation’s voice into this shared work.

Stories of Faith in Action

This week’s newsletter also lifts up opportunities and stories from across the ELCA:

  • Climate Justice Advocacy Immersion Trip – Nominations open through April 17

  • Navajo Evangelical Lutheran Mission video – Highlighting deep community relationships

  • ELCA World Hunger stories – Faithful responses to hunger and fear

  • Ecumenical Advocacy Days (April 20–22, Washington, D.C.) – A national witness for justice

  • Voting rights Action Alert – Advocacy to protect access to the ballot

These stories remind us that advocacy is not abstract—it is lived out in communities, relationships, and faithful action.

A Church for the Sake of the World

As we walk through Holy Week, we are reminded that Christ meets us in both suffering and hope—and sends us out again.
