LAMA: Faithful Citizenship Starts with a Vote

Lutheran Advocacy Ministry Arizona’s September update calls Grand Canyon Synod members to faithful, practical engagement in public life—beginning with voter registration.

In observance of National Voter Registration Day, LAMA encourages everyone to register to vote or confirm their voter status. Those already registered can help by reminding friends and neighbors to check their status and make a voting plan. Readers are also invited to take the 2026 Faithful Arizona Voter Pledge, committing to trustworthy information and safe, confident participation for every eligible voter.

The update includes several timely opportunities to learn, serve, and organize:

• Election Protection Volunteer Training: September 17 and 25, 6:00–7:30 p.m.

• LAMA Liaison Roundtable: September 21, 6:30–7:30 p.m. via Zoom.

• Poll Chaplain/Peacekeeper Training: September 28, 4:00–5:15 p.m.

• Grand Canyon Synod Hunger Leaders Network: September 29, 6:00–7:00 p.m., featuring Bishops Deborah Hutterer and Jeff Johnson, Saint Mary’s Food Bank CEO Milt Liu, Rev. Nelson Rabell-Gonzalez, and others.

• AFN Social Justice Commission and Faith Voter AZ Committee: October 1.

LAMA also shares resources to help congregations prepare faithfully for election-related disruption, pray and engage constructively in public life, understand Arizona’s ballot measures, confront hunger, and advocate for Oak Flat. As Lutherans, we are called to seek our neighbors’ flourishing and to participate in civic life with humility, courage, and care for the most vulnerable.
