LAMA: Prepare to Vote—and Help Your Congregation Prepare, Too
Lutheran Advocacy Ministry Arizona’s September 22 newsletter invites us to take the 2026 Faithful AZ Voter Pledge, advocate against hunger, and join upcoming opportunities for learning and service. Two actions lead this issue: Arizona Faith Network’s Faithful Voter Pledge encourages voters to make a plan, use trustworthy information, and help eligible neighbors participate safely and confidently. A regional Hunger Leaders Network letter invites advocates in Arizona, Nevada, and California to urge their governors to take stronger action against hunger.
On September 29, from 6–7 p.m., the Grand Canyon Synod Hunger Leaders Network will hold a special hunger education gathering. Featured participants include Bishops Deborah Hutterer and Jeff Johnson, Saint Mary’s Food Bank CEO Milt Liu, and the Rev. Nelson Rabell-Gonzalez. All are welcome to explore connections among mercy, compassion, and hunger justice.
Other upcoming opportunities include:
September 25, 6–7:30 p.m.: Nonpartisan election protection volunteer training.
September 28, 4–5:15 p.m.: Poll chaplain and peacekeeper training for those helping provide a calming presence for vulnerable voters.
October 1: Arizona Faith Network’s Social Justice Commission, 8:30–9:30 a.m., and online Faith Voter AZ Committee, 2–3 p.m.
October 2, noon–1 p.m.: Anti-Hunger & Food Systems Advocacy Call.
October 3, 2–4 p.m.: Global Refuge Pastor-in-Residence Eric Shafer speaks at Christ the Lord Lutheran Church in Carefree about accompanying refugees, immigrants, and asylum seekers.
The issue also highlights Arizona’s general election publicity pamphlet, the superintendent of public instruction election, and LAMA’s voter guide in English and Spanish. Congregations will find election-season prayers and a guide to preparing for election-related disruption. An update from Lutheran Social Services of the Southwest raises concerns about refugee families losing Medicaid coverage.
