Asociación de Ministerios Latinos – ELCA Responde a la Decisión de la Corte Suprema
El 10 de septiembre de 2025, la Asociación de Ministerios Latinos de la ELCA expresó profunda preocupación tras la reciente decisión de la Corte Suprema de los Estados Unidos. El fallo permite a ICE detener a inmigrantes en el sur de California sin sospecha razonable, únicamente en base a su raza o idioma.
La Asociación calificó esta decisión como “una amenaza al bienestar y la dignidad de miles de familias latinas que hacen prosperar a nuestra nación.” Además, señalaron que este fallo abre la puerta al perfilamiento racial, una práctica que contradice los valores de justicia, dignidad y respeto hacia todas las personas.
Fundamentado en las Escrituras, el comunicado recuerda lo dicho en Éxodo 22:21: “No maltrates ni oprimas al extranjero, porque ustedes también fueron extranjeros en Egipto.” Como luteranos, recordamos que Cristo nos llama a acoger al extranjero, proteger al vulnerable y rechazar políticas que atenten contra la dignidad humana.
La Asociación nos invita a orar y a pedir sabiduría para que nuestras leyes se implementen sin intimidación, reconociendo siempre la humanidad de los hijos e hijas de Dios. También ofrecieron palabras de esperanza a nuestros hermanos y hermanas inmigrantes en medio de la incertidumbre: Jesús, la luz del amor, vence la oscuridad, y caminamos juntos en fe.

Latino Ministries Association – ELCA Responds to Supreme Court Ruling
On September 10, 2025, the Latino Ministries Association of the ELCA issued a statement of deep concern following a recent decision by the U.S. Supreme Court. The ruling permits Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) to stop immigrants in Southern California without reasonable suspicion, solely on the basis of race or language.
The Association called this ruling “a threat to the wellbeing and dignity of thousands of Latine families who help our nation thrive.” They emphasized that the decision opens the door to racial profiling, a practice that contradicts the values of justice, dignity, and respect for all people.
Rooted in Scripture, the statement draws on Exodus 22:21: “Do not mistreat or oppress a foreigner, for you were foreigners in Egypt.” As Lutherans, we are reminded that Christ calls us to welcome the stranger, protect the vulnerable, and stand against policies that demean human dignity.
The Association urges prayer and wisdom so that laws can be implemented without intimidation, always recognizing the humanity of God’s beloved children. They also offered words of hope to immigrant siblings facing fear and uncertainty: Jesus, the light of love, conquers the darkness, and we walk together in faith.
