March Into Ministry: New Resources and Opportunities for Lutheran Schools
Leaders, educators, and congregations connected to Lutheran education are invited to explore new resources and opportunities highlighted in the latest newsletter from ELCA Schools and Learning Centers (ELEA). From Lutheran Schools Week (March 1–7) to leadership opportunities and practical ministry resources, this month’s update offers ways for Lutheran communities to strengthen their work with children, families, and educators.
A key focus this month is Lutheran Schools Week, a nationwide celebration of Christ-centered education in Lutheran schools and early learning centers. Schools are encouraged to take part in the celebration and make use of a toolkit designed to uplift students, staff, and families while highlighting the faith-filled learning happening in Lutheran classrooms. Even if your school celebrates at another time, these resources can be used year-round to celebrate Lutheran education.
The newsletter also highlights several practical ministry resources available to schools and congregations. One example is Coins for Lent, a simple but meaningful faith practice developed by Pastor Janelle Hooper, Program Manager for Ministry with Children in the ELCA. The project invites children and families to collect coins during Lent using daily prompts that inspire gratitude, reflection, and generosity. After Easter, the offering can support local outreach ministries, the ELEA Endowment, or ELCA World Hunger.
For those interested in shaping the future of Lutheran education nationally, ELEA is currently seeking applicants to serve on its board of directors. Board members help guide and strengthen the ministry that supports Lutheran schools, early learning centers, and educators across the country. Individuals with nonprofit leadership experience, strong relational skills, and gifts in areas such as finance or development are especially encouraged to apply.
The newsletter also celebrates “A Ministry Growing Hearts,” a School Spotlight featuring Here We Grow Preschool & Childcare Center Living Hope in Saukville, Wisconsin. For nearly 25 years, the ministry has nurtured children through Christ-centered early childhood education, supported by strong congregational partnerships, volunteer involvement, and creative learning environments—including outdoor classrooms.
In addition, ELEA members can access exclusive vendor discounts through the Community member platform, including savings on classroom supplies and educational materials. Schools and educators can also participate in conversations with peers nationwide in the members-only Community space, where leaders are sharing insights on topics such as supporting families, understanding the digital lives of Generation Alpha, navigating immigration questions, and strengthening school finances.
If you serve in a Lutheran congregation, school, or early learning center, these tools and opportunities may support your ministry with children and families.
