Social Purpose Funds screen out some companies whose practices conflict with ELCA social criteria, including fossil fuels, military weapons, pornography and private prisons. They also seek investments that can support community development, affordable housing, clean energy, sustainable forestry, and women- and minority-owned businesses.
For Lutherans, care for God’s creation and love for our neighbors are not separate from the choices we make with our resources. Choosing to explore Social Purpose Funds is one way to consider how retirement savings may reflect our shared commitments to human dignity, justice and the well-being of creation.
Portico offers 15 Social Purpose Funds among the 34 investment options in the ELCA Retirement Plan. Members may use either the Target Date Series, in which investment professionals manage and rebalance the fund mix, or Build-Your-Own options for those who prefer to manage their own allocations.
Investment decisions are personal, and all investments carry risk; past performance does not guarantee future results. Before making a change, review your options carefully, including fees, investment objectives and risks.
