More Than Recipes: Celebrating Our Synod’s Shared Table

Rooted at the Table: Thank You for Sharing Your Stories and Recipes

As part of our 2026 Synod Assembly under the theme “Rooted in God’s Story,” we invited participants to help create something special: a community recipe book called Rooted at the Table. View all recipes here.

Now, as we continue reflecting on Assembly, we want to say thank you to everyone who submitted recipes and stories that helped bring this project to life.

Each assembly participant received a printed copy of Rooted at the Table, featuring recipes gathered from congregations and households across the Grand Canyon Synod. But this collection is more than a cookbook.

It is a collection of memory.

Of culture.

Of faith passed around tables.

Food has always been part of how communities gather and how faith is shared. Meals accompany celebrations and losses alike. Recipes carry stories from one generation to another. Around church tables we have prayed, laughed, grieved, welcomed newcomers, celebrated confirmations, gathered after funerals, and shared countless potluck meals together.

In Lutheran communities, tables matter. We encounter grace not only at the Communion table, but also in the ordinary holy moments of hospitality, generosity, and shared meals.

Thank you to everyone who contributed a recipe that carries meaning in your family, congregation, or faith journey. Your stories remind us that we are connected not only through worship and ministry, but through traditions lovingly shared.

Whether you were at Assembly or simply want to explore the tastes and stories of our synod, we invite you to revisit the collection and perhaps even try a new recipe from a fellow Lutheran somewhere across Arizona, southern Nevada, St. George, or the Navajo Nation.
