New Spirit Lutheran in Tucson Seeks Minister of Worship & Music
New Spirit Lutheran Church in Tucson is seeking a part-time Minister of Worship & Music to help lead and develop a creative, participatory and growing worship ministry. The position averages approximately 15 hours per week, with annual compensation of $19,500–$23,400, based on experience and qualifications. Applications are being reviewed as they are received.
New Spirit, an ELCA congregation located at 8701 E. Old Spanish Trail in Tucson, is looking for more than a musician to lead on Sunday mornings. The congregation seeks a leader, teacher, encourager and collaborator who understands worship and music as ministry and can help people discover and use their gifts to proclaim the Gospel.
New Spirit’s worship brings together contemporary Christian music and Lutheran liturgical and musical traditions. The Minister of Worship & Music will lead music for Sunday worship and major services, collaborate with the pastor in worship planning, organize and lead rehearsals, teach new music, and recruit and develop musicians from within and beyond the congregation.
The position also includes leadership of the Worship & Music Team, collaboration with New Spirit’s Music Assistant and media team, and opportunities to help children and youth learn songs of faith and become active participants in worship.
Candidates should have the musical ability to lead contemporary congregational worship vocally and/or instrumentally, along with the ability to lead and develop people. New Spirit especially seeks someone who is organized, creative, dependable and collaborative and who can teach, coach and encourage volunteers.
Candidates should support New Spirit’s Christian identity, Lutheran theology, core values, and commitment to welcome and inclusion. This is a lay ministry staff position; ELCA rostered-minister status and ordination are not required.
For New Spirit, worship gathers God’s people around Word and Sacrament, gives voice to faith, forms disciples, and sends the church into the world to love and serve our neighbors. The congregation is seeking someone who wants not simply to fill a Sunday role, but to help build what comes next.
To apply, candidates should complete New Spirit’s online application and submit a résumé, brief statement of interest, and a link to a video or audio recording demonstrating musical and/or vocal leadership. Professional production is not required; existing worship, ensemble, performance or simple phone recordings are welcome. Recordings demonstrating congregational worship leadership are especially helpful.
Applications will be reviewed as they are received.
