Summer Renewal and Sacred Work at Spirit in the Desert

From Carefree, Arizona, the team at Spirit in the Desert welcomes you into a new season of rest and renewal—both for guests and for the campus itself. While the bustle of the high season has slowed, the Spirit staff continues their holy work: creating space where people encounter God’s grace, joyful hospitality, and a renewed sense of purpose.

This summer, Spirit is tackling essential maintenance projects—deep cleaning guest rooms and the kitchen, refreshing décor, renovating the Estrem Center carpet, and preparing for the upcoming retreat season. One key effort is the long-overdue Lock Project, replacing nearly 50 guest room locks with a modern system that ensures safety and ease for both visitors and staff.

You can help. A $900 donation covers the cost of one door—lock, software, installation, and training. Rather than seek one large donor, Spirit is inviting the broader community to participate in this important upgrade. If you or your congregation are able, consider sponsoring a door and helping Spirit welcome future guests with peace of mind.

Beyond facility updates, Spirit continues to offer robust online and in-person opportunities for spiritual growth and connection, including:

  • Daily Devotions from Pr. Steve Holm, delivered by email—free to all subscribers.

  • Centering Prayer sessions every Monday at noon AZ time.

  • Touchpoint Live, a contemplative worship and reflection space every Wednesday at 3:00p MST with Henry Rojas.

  • The Spirited Book Club featuring Good Soil by Jeff Chu, meeting July 10 & 24 at noon PDT.

  • Healing of Memories for Healthcare Workers, a free retreat November 15–17, 2025.

  • And a returning retreat in January 2026 with Ron Rude and Sharon Reinbott exploring Christian wisdom and Earth-based spirituality.
