“This is the night of salvation.”
Faith Lutheran Church in Phoenix invites all to gather for The Great Vigil of Easter—the central and most ancient celebration of the Christian year—on Saturday, April 4 at 7 p.m.
The Vigil begins outdoors, where the community will gather around a newly kindled fire. From this light, the Paschal candle is blessed and carried into the darkened nave, marking Christ’s victory over death and the light that no darkness can overcome (John 1).
Inside, the assembly will move through the great story of God’s saving work—hearing scripture, song, and promise that span from creation to resurrection. Rooted deeply in the Lutheran tradition, the Vigil holds together Word, Sacrament, and community as we remember who we are and whose we are.
Participants will also affirm their Baptismal Covenant, welcome new members into the body of Christ, and celebrate the first Eucharist of Easter—a powerful movement from death to life, from silence to song, from waiting to resurrection joy.
For congregations and individuals across the Grand Canyon Synod, the Vigil offers a profound opportunity to enter fully into the mystery of Easter. It is not simply a service to attend, but a story to step into—a living proclamation that God is making all things new.
All are welcome.
