What Arizona Lutherans Need to Know This Week from LAMA
This week’s newsletter from Lutheran Advocacy Ministry Arizona (LAMA) offers several important opportunities for Grand Canyon Synod congregations and leaders to stay informed, advocate for neighbors, and engage faithfully in public life.
The featured Action Alert encourages Arizona Lutherans to begin paying attention to the state’s 2026 elections. With 265 candidates already filed for office across Arizona, now is a good time to learn who is running in your district and begin following issues that shape the lives of our communities.
Several upcoming events may also be of interest to congregations, ministry leaders, and advocacy teams. Topics include food systems and anti-hunger advocacy, support for children in immigrant families, racial justice dialogue, and opportunities to join ongoing work through the Arizona Faith Network Social Justice Commission and Cherishing Creation Collaborative. LAMA also highlights upcoming Poll Chaplain/Peacekeeper training, equipping faith leaders to provide a calming and supportive presence for voters during the 2026 election season.
This week’s blog highlights include:
LAMA’s 2026 Synod Assembly ministry report, reflecting on a year of advocacy and engagement across Arizona.
An update from Lutheran Social Services of the Southwest on housing, Medicaid protections, and state budget concerns.
Resources about cooling centers and heat relief, especially important as extreme temperatures return across Arizona.
An ELCA Action Alert urging support for hunger and agricultural funding.
Information on the Arizona Nonprofit Security Grant Program and ELCA World Hunger Domestic Hunger Grants.
As Lutherans, we affirm that loving our neighbor includes engaging the systems that shape human flourishing. Advocacy is one way we participate in God’s ongoing work of justice, mercy, and care for creation.
We encourage you to explore the full LAMA newsletter, share it with others in your congregation, and consider where your community might be called to deeper engagement.
