Supporting Ministry Through Thrivent Member Benefits

Dear Siblings in Christ,

If you're a Thrivent member, you may have access to two powerful resources that can amplify your support for ministry: Thrivent Choice Dollars and Thrivent Action Teams. These member benefits provide meaningful ways to strengthen both your congregation and the broader work of the Grand Canyon Synod.

Thrivent Choice Dollars: Directing Your Impact

Eligible Thrivent members receive Choice Dollars based on their membership, insurance premiums, and product holdings. These dollars can be directed to enrolled nonprofit organizations, including your congregation and the Grand Canyon Synod, at no additional cost to you.

Your Thrivent Choice Dollars support vital ministries including:

  • Leadership development for pastors, deacons, and candidates

  • Lutheran Campus Ministries at ASU, NAU, and University of Arizona

  • Advocacy through LAMA and LEAN

  • Congregational grants and transition support

  • Youth ministry, camps, and faith formation

  • Border ministry and community partnerships

Directing your Choice Dollars is simple:

  • Visit Thrivent.com/thriventchoice or call 800-847-4836 and say "Thrivent Choice"

  • Search for your congregation by name or the "Grand Canyon Synod"

  • Direct your available 2025 Choice Dollars before the March 31, 2026 deadline

Members can direct Choice Dollars quarterly throughout the year, or make one designation before March 31, 2026, to allocate all Choice Dollars earned in 2025. Not sure if you have Choice Dollars available? Check your Thrivent account online or contact Thrivent directly. Every dollar directed makes a difference in our shared ministry together.

Thrivent Action Teams: Turning Ideas Into Action

Thrivent members can also apply year-round for Thrivent Action Team grants: $250 seed money to fund volunteer projects that address community needs. Whether your congregation is hosting a food drive, organizing a service project, launching an outreach event, or supporting a community initiative, Thrivent Action Teams can help make it happen.

 How it works:

  • Eligible Thrivent benefit members can lead up to two Action Teams per calendar year; associate members can lead one per year

  • Each approved project receives a $250 Community Impact Card

  • Funds can be used for supplies, materials, and promotional items

  • Applications are reviewed within 5 business days

  • Projects must be completed within 90 days of approval

Examples of Action Team projects:

  • Backpack drives for students

  • Community meals or food pantry restocking

  • Service days at local organizations

  • Welcome events for neighbors

  • Disaster relief supply collections

  • Care package assembly for homebound members

  • VBS or youth ministry supply purchases

  • Congregational outreach events

  • Stewardship campaigns (stamps, printing, letters, banners, and promotional materials)

Ready to lead an Action Team? Visit Thrivent.com/actionteam to submit your project idea. Once approved, you'll receive resources, promotional materials, T-shirts, and the $250 Community Impact Card to bring your vision to life.

Make Your Benefits Count

These Thrivent member benefits are gifts meant to be shared. By directing your Choice Dollars and leading Action Teams, you participate in the larger mission we share as church together: Communicate Jesus. Connect People. Create Possibilities.

Need help maximizing these benefits to support your congregation's ministry? The Grand Canyon Synod Office of the Bishop is here to assist. Contact us at 602-957-3223 or visit www.gcsynod.org

Thank you for your faithful stewardship and generosity.
