Rooted at the Table: The Stories Behind the Recipes
Some recipes are more than instructions—they are memories.
They carry the voices of people we love. They remind us of kitchens and tables where we were welcomed, taught, and cared for. They connect us to moments of joy, grief, and everything in between.
As part of the Rooted at the Table recipe project, we are inviting you not only to share a recipe, but to share the story that comes with it.
Maybe it’s your grandmother’s bread, made the same way for generations.
Maybe it’s a camp recipe that brings back memories of summer and community.
Maybe it’s a dish served after a baptism, a funeral, or during a time when your congregation came together to care for one another.
Maybe it’s a simple meal that carried you through a difficult season.
In the life of faith, these stories matter.
As Lutherans, we trust that God meets us in the ordinary moments of life—in gathering, in sharing, in remembering. The meals we prepare and share become part of how we experience grace, connection, and community.
The Rooted at the Table collection is not just about food—it is about the people, places, and stories that shape our life together across the Grand Canyon Synod.
All recipes submitted will be published online, with a curated selection included in the printed cookbook connected with the 2026 Synod Assembly.
Submissions are open now, and the deadline is May 1, 2026.
When you submit your recipe, we invite you to include a few words about what it means to you.
Tell us the story behind your recipe.
