Share Your Gifts: Friday Night Variety Show Planned for Synod Assembly

After a full day of worship, learning, and assembly business, the Grand Canyon Synod Assembly will gather Friday evening for something a little different — a joyful hour of creativity, laughter, and shared gifts from across the synod.

The Friday Night Variety Show, taking place Friday, June 12, 2026, will feature short, family-friendly performances from people across the Grand Canyon Synod. The evening will include music, storytelling, poetry, humor, skits, cultural performances, and other creative expressions from across our communities.

Throughout scripture, God’s people celebrate through song, storytelling, and joyful expression. This evening offers an opportunity to experience that same spirit of creativity and community as we celebrate the many gifts present across our synod.

Pastor Thaddeus Book of Desert Cross Lutheran Church in Tempe will serve as emcee for the evening.

  • Dinner: 5:30 – 6:30 pm

  • Variety Show: 6:30 – 7:30 pm

The show will take place following dinner as part of the Synod Assembly evening program.

Want to Perform?

We are inviting short, family-friendly acts from across the synod to participate in the program.

Performances should be 5–7 minutes long and require minimal setup so the evening can move smoothly between acts. The goal is to create a lively and joyful program that highlights the wide range of creativity and talent found throughout our synod.

Possible performances might include:

  • Musical performances

  • Poetry or spoken word

  • Storytelling

  • Comedy or humorous reflections

  • Cultural dance or music

  • Short skits

  • Magic or novelty acts

  • Dramatic readings

Acts may be performed by individuals, small groups, congregational teams, or families.

Because time is limited, the planning team will curate the final lineup from submitted proposals to create a balanced and engaging program.

Performance Guidelines

To help the evening run smoothly:

  • Performances must be family-friendly

  • Acts should be 5–7 minutes maximum

  • Setup should be simple and quick

  • Large staging needs or complex technical requirements may not be possible

  • A limited number of acts will be selected for the program

The form will ask for basic contact information, a description of your performance, and any simple technical needs. Selected performers will be contacted prior to Synod Assembly with additional details.
