Celebrate the Flavors of Our Synod: Submit Your Recipe
The story of the church is always a shared story—and in the Grand Canyon Synod, that story is told across many places, cultures, and communities.
From Arizona to southern Nevada, from St. George, Utah to the Navajo Nation, our synod is shaped by a rich diversity of people and traditions. Around our tables, that diversity comes to life in the meals we prepare, the recipes we pass down, and the dishes we bring to share with one another.
The Rooted at the Table recipe project, connected with the 2026 Synod Assembly, is an opportunity to celebrate that diversity and tell a fuller story of who we are together.
We invite you to submit a recipe that reflects your context and community. This might include:
Southwest dishes shaped by the desert landscape
Latino family recipes passed through generations
Native food traditions rooted in place and history
African diaspora dishes rich in culture and resilience
European Lutheran heritage foods
Regional specialties that define your local table
Each recipe is more than a meal—it is a story of identity, belonging, and connection. In a synod as wide-ranging as ours, these stories matter. They help us see one another more clearly and remind us that we are part of something larger than ourselves.
As Lutherans, we trust that God meets us in the ordinary rhythms of life—gathering, sharing, eating, and giving thanks. The table becomes a place where difference is not erased, but honored, and where community is strengthened through shared experience.
All recipes submitted will be published online, creating a living collection that reflects the breadth of our synod. A curated selection will also be included in the printed cookbook connected with the 2026 Synod Assembly.
Submissions are open now, and the deadline is May 1, 2026.
Help us create a collection that reflects the full flavor of the Grand Canyon Synod.
