Last Round of Vital Right Shaped Ministries’ Vitality and Innovation Grants Awarded

On June 16, 2022, four congregations and ministries in the Grand Canyon Synod were awarded a total of $16,000 in 2022 VRSM Vitality and Innovation grants: Vida Nueva, Lutheran Campus Ministry (ASU, UA, NAU), Central Lutheran’s ACE Program (Adult Community Education), and Trinity Lutheran’s Food Bank.

Parts of the grant were funded by the Lilly 3E initiative with Rocky Mountain Synod, as well as our synod’s Growing Generosity Appeal, which thanks to the generosity of individuals and congregations now exceeds $600,000.

Growing Generosity stretch goal: $250,000 by 12/31/2023

Through the generosity of individuals and congregations, together, as Grand Canyon Synod, we raised more than $500,000 within the first year of our three-year appeal.

In gratitude for, and in light of this success, the Growing Generosity Task Force has challenged us to seek additional $250,000 by the end of 2023. The plans for these additional funds will benefit Lutheran Campus Ministries, new & emerging ministries, and our advocacy efforts.

$500,000 initial goal reached for Growing Generosity Appeal

Through the incredible generosity of our synod, we have reached our initial goal of $500,000 for our Growing Generosity Appeal, nearly two years ahead of 12/31/2023 schedule!

As of this post, we have $533,289 in pledges and gifts, with over 90% of gifts received. Our initial goal funded three initiatives:

  1. Growing Financial Viability: $150,000 for a Lilly 3E dollar-for-dollar grant, providing a total of $300,000 for our synod.

  2. Growing Future Ministries: $250,000 raised for Lutheran Campus Ministry ($100,000) and new & emerging ministries ($150,000).

  3. Growing Fervent Voices: $100,000 raised for Lutheran Advocacy Ministry Arizona (LAMA, $70,000) and Lutheran Engagement and Advocacy in Nevada (LEAN, $30,000).

2021 brings $485,082 in gifts and pledges to Growing Generosity Appeal

We finish the 2021 calendar year full of gratitude for all we have accomplished together as a synod.

We also celebrate all who have pledged large and small gifts to our Growing Generosity Appeal. In under a year, we are unexpectedly surprised to find we are already at 97% ($485,082) of our three-year goal of receiving $500,000 in pledges.

Central Lutheran Church Adult Community Education Ministry

We are delighted to share stories of success in the Adult Community Education Ministry from Central Lutheran Church in Arizona City and Casa Grande. In this progress report PDF and video, learn how a range of participants have acquired GEDs and new vocations through this ministry.

This is one of many ministries made possible through our Growing Generosity Appeal. Funded through the Lilly 3E portion of the appeal under Vital Right Shaped Ministries grants, it’s an example of new growth in our synod. Prayerfully consider how you’d like to be part of Growing Generosity.

Growing Future Ministries on Campus

As part of our Growing Generosity Appeal, we present this video on growing future ministries on campus in the Grand Canyon Synod: $50,000 for University of Arizona Campus ministry to sustain the Lutheran presence on the campus in collaboration with Presbyterian, Methodist, and Episcopal partners, and $50,000 will be allocated to explore and potentially launch a Lutheran Campus Ministry program in the Las Vegas area.
