Seeking a Passionate Communicator: Deaconess Community Announces Key Position
A New Opportunity in Diaconal Leadership and Storytelling
The Deaconess Community of the ELCA is currently seeking candidates for a newly developed role: Strategic Mission and Interpretation Manager. This position is designed to support the Community’s outreach, storytelling, and relationship-building efforts through collaborative strategic planning and public representation.
This flexible position may be structured as called or non-called, remote, part-time or full-time, and includes a base salary of $30,000–$60,000 plus Portico Gold+ benefits.
At its heart, this role supports the Community’s core mission: living out the ELCA’s theology of diakonia—service rooted in Christ’s call to love our neighbors. The Strategic Mission and Interpretation Manager will steward the Community’s vision and history through public engagement, strategic leadership, and collaboration with seminaries, synods, and other ministry partners.
Key responsibilities include:
Representing the Deaconess Community in public forums;
Preparing and coordinating educational and storytelling presentations;
Supporting the execution of strategic goals;
Fostering collaborative relationships across ELCA networks.
This position is ideal for someone passionate about public witness, diaconal theology, strategic thinking, and community partnership. The candidate should be familiar with Lutheran theology, have excellent communication and organizational skills, and be comfortable with significant travel.
If you or someone you know may be a good fit—whether a recent graduate, rostered leader, or experienced communicator—please help us share this opportunity widely.
