A Warm Welcome to Our New Synod Transition Coach, Pastor Phil Gustafson

We are thrilled to announce that Pastor Phil Gustafson is stepping into the role of Transition Coach for the Grand Canyon Synod. Pastor Phil brings a wealth of experience to this position, having served in various capacities across the country—from nurturing urban and suburban congregations in Philadelphia to fostering the development of a new mission into a thriving congregation in Missouri.

Ordained on June 9, 1979, Pastor Phil has dedicated over four decades to pastoral ministry, even after his official retirement, by serving as an Interim Pastor to two of our Synod congregations. His deep commitment to spiritual growth extends beyond the pulpit; he is a certified life coach and a master in Neuro-Linguistic Programming, focusing on helping individuals and teams enhance their spirituality.

As we welcome Pastor Phil, we also extend our heartfelt thanks to Pastor Glenn Zimbelman for his dedicated service as our previous Transition Coach. Pastor Glenn's contributions have been invaluable, and his efforts have laid a strong foundation for continued excellence in this role.

Pastor Phil is not only an adept leader but also serves as the Coordinator of ELCA Coaches in the Grand Canyon Synod, a position that underscores his dedication to guiding others through times of change with grace and wisdom.

We are confident that with Pastor Phil’s diverse skill set, his passion for ministry, and his zest for life—reflected in his love for golfing, fishing, chess, and travel—he will be a guiding light for our community during times of transition.
