Celebrating Our Synod’s Journey in 2023!

Let us not become weary in doing good, for at the proper time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up.
— Galatians 6:9

Dear Church,

As this year draws to a close, I continue to be surprised and delighted by the spirit of generosity and commitment that is present throughout our church community. Your support and dedication have been the bedrock of our many achievements in 2023.

At the end of this December, we conclude our Growing Generosity appeal. Earlier this year, we celebrated the surpassing of our $750,000 stretch goal. This campaign has been a powerful testament to your kindness and willingness to support the mission of our church. It is through your contributions that we continue to thrive and expand our reach.

The generosity of congregations and individuals has also been instrumental in the effective functioning of the Office of the Bishop and the greater ELCA. It is your support that enables us to unite as Church Together. The work we do, the initiatives we undertake, and the lives we touch are all made possible because of your gracious giving.

This year, like all years, we have welcomed new faces and bid farewell to others, both in our rostered ministers and our Office of the Bishop staff. These changes represent the dynamic and evolving nature of our church. Each transition is a step forward in our journey of faith and service.

As you look over our year-end newsletter—filled with highlights and significant moments from each month—may you be reminded of the incredible impact of your generosity. From new ministries to outreach programs, from supporting global companions to nurturing local communities, your contributions have enabled a multitude of blessings.

I again end a year full of thanks for your steadfast faith and generosity. I am grateful to be part of such a web of communities. It is your commitment that fuels our mission and binds us together in Christ's love. Let us continue to work hand in hand, celebrating our unity and purpose as we connect people, communicate Jesus, and create possibilities.

Ready to walk with you into a new year,

The Rev. Deborah K. Hutterer
Bishop
Grand Canyon Synod of the ELCA
