Growing Young with Capital Conference: Engaging the Next Generation

Capital Conference is excited to offer a transformative discussion and learning series based on the book "Growing Young" by Kara Powell, Jake Mulder, and Brad Griffin. Represented congregations include Grace, Faith/La Fa, Our Saviour’s, Mount of Olives, All Saints, Trinity, and Saint Andrew.

The book's core message, "All churches grow old. Strategic churches grow young," resonates profoundly, especially after a reflective discussion in the Grand Canyon Synod spring conference gathering, prompting the pivotal question: "Where are the young people?"

Our series intends to arm the Capital Conference with the vocabulary and insights required to proactively invite younger generations into our faith circles, ensuring they form and foster deep, meaningful relationships with God and our communities.

Associate to the Bishop Jacqui Pagel, alongside participants from the Capital Conference, will steer these sessions. The gatherings will span four Monday evenings throughout October, both in-person at Saint Andrew Lutheran Church and virtually via Zoom.

We will be meeting Monday evenings October 2,9,16, and 30 from 6:30-8:30 via zoom and in-person. Reading schedule:

  • Monday, October 2- Chapter 1 and 2

  • Monday, October 9 – Chapter 3 and 4

  • Monday, October 16 – Chapter 5 and 6

  • Monday, October 30 – Chapter 7 and 8

Where: Saint Andrew Lutheran Church (3101 West Cholla Street).
