New digital technology thrills Navajo Lutheran Mission Prep School students

First and second grade students at Navajo Lutheran Mission Preparatory School are enjoying their hybrid classrooms where they receive a balance of direct and asynchronous instruction. Chromebook laptop computers for each child have made it possible to have our students in school full-time, learning and exploring the world.

The laptops allow us to access a variety of online learning resources. Our first and second grade classrooms are able to enhance their direct instruction with IXL Learning skills practice on the Chromebook. Excited students receive certificates and virtual medals as they progress through the skills, reinforcing their engagement. So far this year our students have mastered 828 different reading and math skills!

Without leaving their desks Mission students can explore the Metropolitan Museum of Art, and search for treasures in over 5,000 years of art from across the globe. They will also visit the Smithsonian Institution. Through a live video program students will discover how paleontologists learn about ancient animals by studying the fossils and practicing some of the same scientific skills used by museum scientists! On National Geographic For Kids, students learn about the environment, insects, space, and even how to record chipmunks.

Oh, the places we’ll go! And we’re just getting started! With their Chromebooks, our students can steer themselves in any direction they choose — and what magical things they can do with a mouse pad!
