October brings an array of events and gatherings orchestrated by the Arizona Faith Network (AFN) that are designed to enrich the spiritual and communal aspects of our lives. As fall settles in, AFN's focus on interfaith dialogue and mutual understanding becomes even more palpable.
Highlighting the month is the AFN Annual Gathering on October 24th. With the evocative theme of "Building Bridges, Breaking Barriers," it promises a platform for interfaith dialogue where attendees can learn about bridging divides from the interfaith activist, Tahil Sharma. Born to a Hindu father and Sikh mother, Sharma will bring a unique perspective on religious diversity and unity.
In addition to events like the Annual Gathering, AFN continues to offer enriching activities such as their Monday Meditation sessions. These sessions, led by Bhikkhu Vasu Bandhu, immerse participants in the tranquil principles and rituals of Zen Buddhism.
Furthermore, in light of World Day Against the Death Penalty on October 10th, AFN, along with Death Penalty Alternatives for Arizona, will host a gathering. This significant event aims to unite faith leaders and advocates in a dialogue on abolishing the death penalty, not just in Arizona but globally.
AFN's agenda for October doesn't stop there. They are hosting a 4-part book discussion series on housing in Arizona, shedding light on topics like homelessness and the impact of capitalism on housing. The series promises rich discussion led by local NAU professor emeritus Dr. Cathy Small.
