Maximize Your Voice: Plan Your Congregation's 2024 Assembly Representation Now

As we approach our 2024 Synod Assembly on June 14 & 15 at Love of Christ Lutheran Church in Mesa, it's an important moment for our congregations to consider their representation. View our page on determining voting members for your congregation.

Determining Your Congregation's Representation

The strength of our assembly lies in the diverse voices that reflect our entire synod. The number of voting members each congregation can send is determined by the congregation's size.

Importantly, we strive for a balanced representation of genders among lay voting members, aiming for a 50/50 split between male and female participants.

New Opportunities for Inclusion in 2024

This year, in our ongoing commitment to inclusivity and representation, we are excited to introduce additional opportunities for congregations to extend their representation:

  • Youth and Young Adult Representation: Congregations may elect one additional lay voting member who is a youth (confirmed to age 17) or a young adult (age 18 to 30).

  • Diverse Voices: Congregations may also elect one additional lay voting member who is a person of color or whose primary language is other than English.

These additions underscore our dedication to hearing all voices within our synod, especially those that have historically been underrepresented.

Who Are Voting Members Across the Synod?

All active and retired Ministers of Word and Sacrament, Ministers of Word and Service, Synod Council members, and Synod Officers are voting members. Specific guidelines ensure that retired ministers have a voice, and potentially a vote, depending on their current roles within the church.

Your Participation Matters

As your congregation prepares for its annual meeting, this is a vital time to plan your representation at the Synod Assembly. The discussions, decisions, and celebrations we share are enriched by each voice that joins the conversation. We invite you to seize this opportunity to amplify diverse perspectives within our church community.
